The Equity Symposium is an opportunity to learn from each other with a focus on racial equity. Our colleagues from Highline and beyond will present on a range of topics to challenge us to deepen our capacity for equity.

All staff will attend two sessions:
  • An All-Staff Anti-Bias Training
  • Additionally, staff will select an Elective session

Based on research from Zaretta Hammond, Alfred W. Tatum and more, we will share high leverage methods for increasing for increasing student and family ownership within the educational community. Many times, diverse families are unintentionally marginalized when it comes to implementing initiatives within a building. Participants will learn about a process that holds promise for ensuring strong family voice and a cycle of feedback to promote more equitable input from families. Participants will also learn about two approaches for building relationships with diverse students and implementing culturally responsive methods for achieving mastery and high levels of intellectual achievement, thus disrupting harmful effects of institutional racism and bias within the classroom setting.
